Airport Contacts for London

How to get in touch with London's airports. With up-to-the minute flight information links to bus, taxi, lost property and airport information.

There are three major London airports. These are London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London City.

  1. London Heathrow - It is the biggest London airport, with five terminals numbered one to five. It is located in west London
  2. London Gatwick - It has two terminals, North Terminal and South Terminal. It is located south of London, just outside the M25 Orbital.
  3. London City - It has only one terminal, but has the advantage of being the only airport in central London. It is less than a mile (less than a Km) from ExCeL London, 2 miles (about 3 Km) from the 2012 Olympic Games site, 3 miles (about 5 Km) from Canary Wharf and 6 miles (almost 10 Km) from the City of London.

Airports serving London, but further away from the centre are London Stansted, which is 46 minutes away from London by train, and London Luton, which takes a minimum of 21 minutes to London by train.

Heathrow Express: The quickest way to get to central London from Heathrow. Trains depart every 15 minutes and go to London Paddington. The journey time is 15 minutes. Trains run between 05:10 and 23:25 from Paddington, and between 05:07 and 23:42 from Heathrow Website
Heathrow Connect: A slower and cheaper way to get to London Paddington. Trains run every 30 minutes and take about 25 minutes, or a bit longer from Terminal 4 or 5. The train stops at a few other stations on the way to Paddington Tel: 0845 748 4950

Underground: The Piccadilly Line is the cheapest rail route between Heathrow and central London. The journey takes just under an hour, and underground trains run at least every ten minutes. 
Heathrow has three Underground stations - one for Terminals 1 and 3, one each at Terminal 4 and Terminal 5. All of them are in Travelcard Zone 6, meaning a single adult fare to central London costs approximately £4. If buying a Travelcard, it can be used for London buses and some mainline trains. Taxis: There are taxi ranks outside all five terminals. The journey to central London costs approximately £50-£55 and usually takes 30-60 minutes Information

Cycling: Heathrow can be reached by bike via a network of cycle paths. It takes around 90 minutes to get to Heathrow from Paddington, taking the Grand Union Canal towpath for much of the ride. Plan a journey

Gatwick Express: The quickest way to get to central London from Gatwick. Trains run every 15 minutes and go to London Victoria. The journey time is 30 minutes, or 35 minutes on Sundays. Tickets can be bought in the terminals, at the station, or onboard. Discounts are sometimes available if booking online. Trains: There are slower and cheaper trains to London Victoria. Journey time varies between 30 and 55 minutes.

easyBus: Low cost services to central London. Buses depart every 15 minutes at peak times and run throughout the day and night from both terminals to Earls Court/West Brompton Website
Taxis: Run by Checker Cars. Cars can be booked in advance or at the Checker Cars offices in the North and South terminals. Fares can be paid before or at the end of the journey with cash or credit card. Cars with special seats for disabled travellers are available. Docklands Light Railway (DLR): DLR trains leave London City every 8 to 15 minutes and take around 22 minutes to Bank station, which is close to central London and connects to the following London Underground lines: the Northern, Circle, Central and District lines. Trains: The closest train stations are London Bridge, Waterloo and Stratford International. To get to them, take the DLR to Canning Town, and then the London Underground Jubilee line Information

Parking: If staying less than 24 hours, use the Short Stay Car Park next to the terminal. For longer stays, use the Long Stay Car Park, which is a few minutes from the terminal. A free bus goes from the Long Stay Car Park to the airport terminal. There are also Mid Stay and Valet parking options. Motorcycle parking is free in Zone Q of the Long Stay Car Park. Motorbikes can only be parked in Zone Q Information
Trains: Stansted Airport railway station is situated below the airport terminal building. There are regular trains to central and east London, eastern England and the Midlands. Tickets can be bought in advance or at the station Information
Stansted Express: Trains go from Stansted to London Liverpool Street every 15 minutes. They take 46 minutes.
London Liverpool Street is on three London Underground lines (Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City), which provide a quick connection to central and east London. Stansted Express trains go from Stansted to London from 05:30 to 00:30

Buses and Coaches: Stansted's bus and coach station is opposite the main terminal entrance. Buses and coaches go from here to London, other major UK cities, and the local area. Coach tickets can be bought on coaches, at the ticket desk in arrivals (open 06:00-01:00) or in the coach station (all day, every day). Not all buses and coaches are wheelchair-accessible Information
